KEN PENDERGAST is a Philadelphia based professional bass player and producer. Performing from LA to New York, Pendergast is heard at upwards of 200 live shows a year appearing in venues as large as the Kennedy Center and as quaint as Chris’ Jazz Cafe. He performs and has recorded with Melody Gardot, the Subliminal Orphans, Musiqology, Ralph Bowen, Aaron Parks and The Monday Quintet among many others. As a session bassist, Pendergast is regularly in the studio recording primarily Jazz, R & B, Rock and Hip-Hop, though is often called to venture into genres as varied as Haitian Rock and Indian Pop.
Working with Melody Gardot (Universal London), Pendergast composes horn arrangments and supports the group as upright bassist and eight-string guitarist. His music director credits include Philadelphia’s Hip-Hop band, The Hustle and Pendergast’s pet project The Monday Quintet.
His production credits include co-producer of The Chuck Staab Group’s Water Prayer; assistant producer and artistic advisor of Fadism’s The Conversation; sequencing and programming for Tangible Truth’s second release; and composer/producer of The Monday Quintet’s Everything’s a Little Hairy.
Pendergast was a featured composer in Jazziz Magazine’s October 2006 issue. His work “Minor Progress” was chosen for the corresponding CD. Additionally, Pendergast was co-composer of the original production of the breakdance musical From the Hip, which world premiered at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia, September 2006.
